Our first collection of Advent daily readings was delivered
in 2013. Since then, Oblates and Sisters have mused how
particular scripture passages have formed and informed
their lives. Julie Poskitt, one of our founding editorial
midwives, fittingly described these musings as “little
embers, the lectio of our lives”. It has been a profound
experience to share these sparks of insight for they have
enriched our experience of the Advent season.
After an audacious battle with relentless cancer, Julie
returned to God in mid-October. While she did not want to
leave us, she was full of hope, and gratitude, and good
humour to the end. Hers was a deep, abiding and certain
faith with which she lavished so many, so generously –
little embers she fanned into a flame of faith that will
continue to inspire, embolden and propel us on. For the
gift of knowing her, we are immeasurably grateful.
This collection of Advent embers is an up-dated version of
that first offering from five years ago. They are written by
18 Oblates and 5 Sisters. Suggested scripture readings are
included as these entries may well form part of your daily
prayers.
It continues to be our prayer that these will provide
sustenance for the journey. We welcome your company
on the Way.
These Advent Reflections
are offered
to the Glory of God,
in loving memory of,
and with deepest gratitude for
our beloved Oblate friend,
Julie Poskitt
and also with
heartfelt thanksgiving
for the friendship
and faithful prayers
we share as Oblates of
the Sisterhood of
St. John the Divine
“Grace to you and peace –
I always thank God because I hear of your love
for all the saints and your faith in the Lord Jesus.”
Philemon 1: 3-4
